Morzine is set in the heart of the Portes du Soleil the largest
linked ski area in the world with over 650 km of pistes spread over
14 resorts, 8 in France and 6 in Switzerland. For beginners both
Morzine and
Avoriaz have
great nursery slopes to learn on, backed up with a great selection
of ski schools. Once youve mastered these slopes you can work
your way around the Portes
du Soleil circuit with all the connecting blue and red runs
over 80kms over 14 resorts in France and Switzerland in one day!
Stretching between France and Switzerland, over 200 ski lifts will
take you up to the 8 snowparks (link to park links below), 243km
of cross country tracks and 650km of marked pistes that interconnect
the 14 resorts, all accessible with a single ski pass.( link to
ski passes prices ) Even though parts of the ski area sit at a moderate
altitude, it's northern situation (the most Northern in France)
means that it often gets better snow than most other French resorts
which are much higher. This factor along with the abundance of North
facing slopes, means the snow lasts late in the season (the
lifts in Avoriaz closed on May 1st 2005 last season!) Also dont
forget about the 520 snow cannons!
Skiing
With the ski area being so large, there is a huge amount of varied
skiing available in the Portes Du Soleil. 28 black runs, 107 red
runs , 112 blue runs and 41 green runs.
Why not have a gentle ski over to Mont Chery for amazing view of
the always impressive Mont Blanc or attempt the famous Swiss
wall, icy, steep and waist deep moguls! There is also plenty
of accessible off piste skiing, such as the massive bowls down from
Avoriaz and the tree runs down to Les Linderets.
Free Ski Guiding
Your guide Justin
With 18 years experience on the snow, and this winter being Justins
9th full winter season, he is the perfect host to show you around
the mountain. He also has obtained his snowboard instructor qualification
from BASI (British Association of Snow sport instructors) &
his American Level 1 qualifications in skiing and snowboarding.
For skiers and snowboarders who can confidently ski red runs (intermediate
standard and above). Free guiding will be provided on two days a
week. This will give those who are new to the massive Portes du
Soleil the opportunity to discover the vast ski area it has to offer
without getting lost, to find some of those great areas that you
might overlook, and for those who have been before to explore new
areas missed the last time. I will be able to show you the best
mountain restaurants, how to avoid the queues, find the best snow
and where to finish the day with a well-deserved après ski
beer or vin chaud.
Please note that to comply with French regulations the ski guiding
does not form part of your holiday package but is provided as a
completely free service. We may withdraw the service at any time
and priority is given to weekly bookings. This service is not available during peak weeks.
